Recreating a 70’s classic – The Omega plongeurs professionnels (Ploprof) 1200m

All Photos (c) Omega [ ] The Ploprof 600 was a much sought after collectors item in the 70’s. At Baselworld this year Omega announced the Ploprof 1200m with the outstanding 8500 co-axial movement.

The 8500 movement has a “jump hour” feature to quickly change timezones and the crown is a “destro” which will suit divers.

The most noticable feature of the ploprofs is the orange bezel lock button to prevent inadvertant bezel changes. Although I have to meet a diver yet who uses tables and his watch to check “bottom time”. Most use dive computers, but it is very useful as a backup.

The operational depth of up to 1200m will satisfy even the most demanding divers or desk divers. It’s quirkyness won’t be to everyones taste but most Omega collectors will be happy to shell out the $7000 plus for the new 1200.

Time to sell another kidney I think!
